The design of the Red Wing Iron Ranger is inspired by the "Mesabi Iron Range", located in northern Minnesota, a range of hills known for its iron ore deposits. The proud workers who toiled in these mines were nicknamed "Iron Rangers", with an emphasis on their adventurous spirit.

The Red Wing Iron Ranger is easily recognized by its double-layered leather toe cap, which provides additional protection. In addition, the Red Wing Iron Ranger features extra heel counter reinforcement for better support.

The Red Wing 8085 boot is made from Copper Rough & Tough leather with an elegant pull-up look. The Copper Rough & Tough leather has a naturally aged appearance due to the amount of oil used during its manufacture.

The Red Wing 8085 Iron Ranger features a rugged Vibram 430 Lug sole and comes with round black/brown taslan laces.
