The Lebel rifle, created in 1886, was widely used by French soldiers during the First World War 1914–1918. It owes its name to Colonel Nicolas Lebel, commander of the camp at Châlons and director of the École normale de tir where the final trials were carried out. Its calibre is: 8×50mm
