As early as October 1940, British Intelligence was testing infiltration methods into occupied France by parachuting Phillip Schneidau "blind" near Montigny, on the edge of the Fontainebleau forest. The British parachute would then rapidly establish itself as one of the principal means of infiltration and was adopted by the Allies, including the Americans of the Operational Groups and Jedburgh teams of the OSS (Office of Strategic Services, the American secret service and precursor to the CIA).
