General of Army Corps (2°S) Pierre de Tonquédec belongs to the Garigliano intake (1949, 1951) of Saint-Cyr Coëtquidan. He chose the Troupes de Marine and served successively in Indochina and North Africa. Upon graduating from the École de Guerre, he volunteered to serve in Chad under General Cortadellas. He commanded the Ouaddaï groupement from September 1970 to July 1971. He then served as head of the EMFT at Fort-Lamy until July 1972. Seven years later, he served again in Chad as commander of "Tacaud", the second French intervention, from July 1979 to February 1980. He returned to Chad for a third time on 20 March 1987, as Inspector of the Troupes de Marine, on the eve of the victory at Ouadi Doum won by the Chadian Army over Gaddafi's forces. General de Tonquédec is a Grand Officer of the Légion d'Honneur.
