- Arnaud Clarétie, known as Jules Claretie or Jules Clarétie, born on 3 December 1840 in Limoges and died on 23 December 1913 in Paris, was a French novelist and playwright, as well as a theatre critic, historian and chronicler of Parisian life. Jules Claretie contributed to numerous newspapers, notably Le Figaro and Le Temps, under several pseudonyms. He held the theatre criticism column at L'Opinion nationale, Le Soir and La Presse. A friend of Étienne Arago, he published an analysis of his Memoirs in Le Temps on 28 May 1892. He was elected a member of the Académie française on 26 January 1888.
