The Red Wing Shoes factory was founded in 1905 by cobbler Charles H. Beckman. He drew inspiration from a Native American who, a century earlier, had been chief of a tribe in the upper Mississippi River valley. The success of the Red Wing brand is primarily due to the quality, comfort and durability of its footwear. Today, an umpteenth generation of employees, based on the same street as the original factory in Red Wing, Minnesota, carries on the tradition using the same craftsmanship and attention to detail: triple straight-stitch seams, a sturdy welt construction and quality heavy-duty leathers.

During the First and Second World Wars, Red Wing Shoes was one of the principal suppliers to the US Army.
