This vest is inspired by 19th and early 20th century work jackets. Hard-wearing, they were worn by factory workers.

"Elephant Skin" means "Elephant Hide". Pike Brothers recreates a vest with a fabric that is both extremely sturdy and supple. In those days these vests had to be tough and resist in particular the sparks from grinders or welding equipment.

The name itself says it all: a fabric as tough as elephant hide, yet with the same suppleness. Over time, the fabric behaves like leather, even though it is 100% cotton.


This Pike Brothers vest is still woven to this day using traditional methods at a German weaving mill, from heavy cotton (520 g/m²). The toughness of the "Elephant Skin" owes its secret to a high-density weave chained with twisted yarn.
