Half-placket shirts were typical of late 19th-century working dress in Europe and the USA. Shirts of the era often featured a small straight collar, or alternatively a shawl or Peter Pan collar. Pike Brothers used a traditional cut for this 1908 Miner Shirt, with two chest pockets and a Peter Pan collar. Period photographs confirm it: this type of shirt was commonly worn by gold prospectors and adventurers.

The shirt has a slim cut, so that it can be worn comfortably under other garments.

Another period detail: the asymmetric chest pockets. In the late 19th and early 20th century, small chest pockets were frequently used for pocket watches. An additional buttonhole was provided to attach the watch chain.
